On August 7, talking to CNN about the recent Republican debate on Fox News, candidate Donald Trump said of debate moderator Megyn Kelly (who pressed him about sexist comments he had made in the past), that “you could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever.”
While he says he meant her nose and ears, many took the comment as a misguided reference to menstruation, and the latest evidence of Trump’s misogyny.
People on Twitter are now reminding Trump that #periodsarenotaninsult by tweeting at him updates on their menstrual cycles—some accessorizing with animated gifs, sparkling red writing, and a collection of red emojis.
