It’s come to this. We need Yeezus to save us.

You may recall Kanye West saying at the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 30, 2015:

I don’t know what I finna lose after this. It don’t matter, though; It’s not about me. It’s about ideas. New ideas. People with ideas. People who believe in truth—and yes, as you probably could’ve guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president.

However serious he was at the time, West—who was a big donor to Hillary Clinton over the past year while his wife, Kim Kardashian, was notably outspoken about her support for the Democratic forerunner—is now being called upon to be honored by thousands of people on social media, in light of last night’s stunning US election upset.

Today, Twitter users have launched a veritable campaign for Yeezy to come through with his promise, posting messages with the hashtags #kanye2020 and #kanyeforpres2020.

No word yet from West on social media as to whether he’ll rise to the occasion, or if he’ll run as a Democrat. There has been no comment yet on the subject from the Democratic Party—though it might be reevaluating the tenor of this tweet it posted last fall.

The next US presidential election takes place on Nov. 3, 2020.
