Disney released the first trailer for Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi today, and it looks stunning.
The trailer premiered at the Star Wars Celebration fan event in Orlando, Florida, before hitting the internet. It shows Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, training with Luke Skywalker on the remote island of Ach-To, where we last left the two characters at the end of The Force Awakens.
Oh, and there are lots of space battles, lightsabers, and gorgeous imagery:
We still don’t know who the “Jedi” in The Last Jedi refers to, but perhaps it doesn’t matter. At the end of the trailer, Luke says, in a quiet, mournful voiceover, that “It’s time for the Jedi to end.”
The trailer will no doubt be watched by millions of people in the coming days, as is the tradition for Star Wars trailers. The marketing campaign for The Force Awakens was one of the most expensive and elaborate in film history.
The Last Jedi, directed by Rian Johnson, hits theaters Dec. 15. Ready yourselves.
