Bertus van Rooy is professor of English linguistics and chair of the English department at the University of Amsterdam in The Netherlands from early 2020. For the previous 21 years, he was at the North-West University, teaching English and Afrikaans, and director of the Research Focus Area "Understanding and Processing Language in Complex Settings" on the Vaal Triangle Campus between 2009 and 2018.
