Nic Cheeseman is associate professor of African politics at Oxford University. He is the author of a number of articles on populism and democracy, which have been published in leading journals and presses. A recent article, “Rethinking the ‘presidentialism debate’: Conceptualizing coalitional politics in cross-regional perspective” (Democratization, 2014), won the inaugural GIGA prize for the best article published in Comparative Area Studies. His analysis has appeared in the Financial Times, Economist, Washington Post, and Foreign Policy. Dr Cheeseman is also an advisor to, and writer for, Kofi Annan's African Progress Panel.
