Mary Carman is a Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of the Witwatersrand. She received a PhD in Philosophy from King's College London in 2015 and held postdoctoral research positions at the University of the Witwatersrand and the Swiss Centre for Affective Sciences, University of Geneva, before taking up her current role. Her main area of research is in the philosophy of emotion and philosophy of action, where she is interested in the role of emotion within conceptions of rational agency. In addition to her work on emotions, she conducts research in applied ethics and has published within bioethics and the ethics of AI.
