Growing up outside Boston, Eliza Becton always felt connected to water. She was an avid sailor from a young age, and even competed in regattas as an undergrad at Yale. You don’t have to be a collegiate sailor to be horrified by the existence of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch—a huge floating mass of litter in the middle of the Pacific—but when Becton discovered that, she knew she wanted to work in sustainable design and help reduce the use of plastic.

Boston-based startup Whoop began with a single question: “What does it actually mean to train optimally?” One of the world’s leading wearable fitness trackers, Whoop turns body metrics data, like heart rate and sleep levels, into targeted insights that help athletes train more effectively. Used by Olympic stars and championship-winning basketball teams, Whoop has expanded into 14 European countries with plans to grow into further markets, starting with Australia this September.

As a senior strategy consultant, Kendall Miller works about 40 weeks a year on the road, traveling to client sites Mondays through Thursdays. She’s learned how to pack like a pro, find the ideal mix of analog and digital work strategies, and balance long days at the office with a good dinner out on the town.
