Richard E. Cytowic, M.D., M.F.A., is a professor of neurology at George Washington University, is best known for rediscovering synesthesia—the involuntary coupling of the senses—and returning it to mainstream science. His book Wednesday Is Indigo Blue, with David Eagleman, won the 2011 Montaigne Medal.
