Todd Gitlin, a onetime national president of Students for a Democratic Society, is a professor of journalism and sociology at Columbia University, and the author of Occupy Nation: The Roots, the Spirit, and the Promise of Occupy Wall Street as well as two books on the social movements of the 1960s, The Whole World Is Watching: Mass Media in the Making and Unmaking of the New Left and The Sixties: Years of Hope, Days of Rage.
