Hi there, Quartz members!
Our week on trucking begins
The truck is, in many ways, the atomic unit of the global economy. It is the object that represents many of the major trends in our world today: the international supply chain; the role automation may play in the jobs we do (or used to do); and the environmental impact of our consumer culture.
We dive in to this fast-moving topic with our state of play memo, which sets up where trucking is today, and where it’s going tomorrow. This is an industry that has done as much as any to change our modern world, but the demands of that world are now changing the industry.
And to make you sound cool, we also have a guide on how to talk like a trucker.
More trucking this week
We’ll have a lot more to talk about regarding trucking, including:
- A Q&A with Finn Murphy, a 30-year trucking veteran and author
- A look at trucking’s global impact
- How our buying habits have changed trucking
- Trucking’s role in film, music, and television
- The demographics of trucking and what it means for the future
Join us this Friday
We’ll have a 30-minute conference call to talk about trucking at noon EST. Stay tuned for details.
Let’s keep learning. Send ideas, questions, comments, and threes and eights to members@qz.com.
Hope you have a rewarding day,
Sam Grobart
