Oreo and BTS announced a limited-edition cookie collaboration on Monday, with the product going on presale June 1 and hitting retail shelves June 8 across more than 80 markets worldwide.
At the center of the cookie is a creme developed to evoke the flavor of hotteok, a Korean street food staple — a warm pancake packed with brown sugar. BTS members said the flavor reflects their upbringing; Jin said in a statement that the goal was to "share with everyone the kinds of dessert flavors Koreans enjoy." Making history for Oreo, the wafers break from the brand's traditional palette with a purple hue — chosen because purple has long been the signature color of BTS and its devoted fan community, called ARMY.
Timed to the group's 13th anniversary this June, the wafers carry 13 distinct embossed designs the band created themselves — among them each member's name, the iconic BTS light stick fans wave at concerts, and a trio of designs whose hidden message only reveals itself once all three are in hand. The cookies will retail for $5.49 per pack, according to Forbes.
"For OREO to be the first snacking brand we've collaborated with globally is a huge honor," BTS said in a statement. "We ate them as kids, we eat them in the studio, and now OREO is helping us share a taste of home with the world."
Matt Foley, who oversees marketing for Oreo, described the deal as rooted in community, with the goal of bringing together two already-passionate audiences — BTS's ARMY and longtime Oreo loyalists. By reaching more than 80 countries, the rollout surpasses every prior Oreo artist collaboration in scale — past deals, such as the one with Selena Gomez, reached only a handful of markets outside the United States, according to CNN.
According to Click On Detroit, Mondelēz chief marketing and sales officer Martin Renaud told The Associated Press that getting to hotteok was a years-long process — the company evaluated the concept for about two years and whittled a shortlist of potential flavors down to three candidates before making a final choice. Renaud noted that the central challenge was making something that felt genuinely rooted in Korean culinary tradition without straying so far into niche territory that it would turn off Oreo's broad global customer base.
Starting June 8, each package will have a QR code that leads buyers to us.OREOBTS.com. There, fans can join a digital tribute that Oreo calls its global love letter to BTS. Participants will also have a chance to win branded merchandise, according to the company.
This collaboration comes as BTS returns to the global stage after a long break while members completed their mandatory military service in South Korea. The group released their fifth studio album, Arirang, in March 2026, and it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, according to the company.
