From chicken wings to chocolate, dusting food with gold is the latest edible trend to be embraced by chefs and restaurants around the globe. In Japan, Gold Kit Kat bars have gotten the Midas touch, and sushi chefs are adding gold toppings to make their nigiri sushi stand out. A hip restaurant in New York now serves gold-basted chicken wings and gold donuts are becoming a thing. Some edible gold foods are covered in 24k gold leaf, which is safe to eat but can’t be broken down by your body. And while the gold may shine in the light, when used in food, it does not alter the flavor.
