With Halloween almost here, US audiences are scouring streaming services to get their spooky fix. On Amazon, they’re flocking to older hits that were rebooted or revived this year and newer, acclaimed fare.
Stephen King’s IT!—the original 1990 mini-series, which was remade in September—is the most-watched horror title in the US on Amazon Video, where viewers buy or rent titles. It’s followed by Jordan Peele’s Get Out, a new release that also brought in scary returns at the box office, M. Night Shyamalan’s Split, and the low-rent supernatural thriller The Autopsy of Jane Doe, the company revealed.

Amazon Prime, where streaming titles are included with a $99-a-year Prime shipping subscription or $8.99-a-month Prime Video subscription, doesn’t have as vast a movie selection as Amazon Video. So audiences took more shots on lesser-known horror films with good reviews.
Flicks like the 2016 British zombie thriller The Girl With All the Gifts and A24’s The Witch, which made its $4-million budget back ten-fold at the box-office last year, were the most streamed on Amazon Prime.

Amazon also streams movies from third-party networks like HBO, Starz, and Showtime, which customers subscribe to individually through Amazon Channels. Starz’s horror selection came out on top here. The network has the streaming rights to movies like
Don’t Breathe
and
The Covenant,
which were the most watched on the Channels platform this year.
