Dear members—
Every industry is having to adjust to the global coronavirus pandemic in its own way and we’ve covered so many different ones that I’ve started to lose track. So, I went back through the entirety of Quartz’s coronavirus coverage to find stories about specific industries, and I’ve compiled a bunch of them for you here:
How the pandemic is affecting…
Airlines | Auto insurance | Bars & restaurants | Consumer electronics | Cruises | Dairy | Farming | Fashion | Film | Fintech | Fracking | Gaming | Groceries | Higher ed | Music | Podcasting | Sports | Trading | TV | Venture capital
As a member, you have access to all of these stories. I’m sure I’ve left off some great pieces, so if you haven’t already, sign up for our Need to Know: Coronavirus newsletter to stay on top of our coverage.
And let me know how the pandemic is affecting your industry:
✉️ What challenges and opportunities does the pandemic pose for your industry?
We asked this question on our homepage this week, and here are some of the responses we heard:
“Working in global development for non-profits, we are having great challenges… All fieldwork has been canceled or seriously delayed, which is good, but what about agricultural farming projects that need seed?”
“I work for a social media scheduler, nothing so far has been unexpected. Small business owners and freelancers with clients in the “non-essentials” industries are getting the hardest slap from Covid-19, and we’re seeing tons of cancellations—many will have gone bankrupt by May/June.”
“Working for an online education company that works with universities, we have obviously been hit with quite the incredible business opportunity. Every university wants to go online, and in a massive hurry, after many have been lagging behind getting into this industry. However, more than anything—business and profit aside—we see it as our social responsibility to help them, even those who are not paying clients.”
LEARNING NEW THINGS
As urgent as the current news is right now, it’s also okay—healthy, even—to take a break from it. This time of uncertainty can also be an opportunity to make space for something new. We’ve updated our member-exclusive reading list on Learning new things, which has cognitive tips from masters like Bill Gates and Bruce Lee, as well as practical resources like how to optimize online learning, and less practical ones like how to tame a fox.
HELP US WITH OUR PRESENTATION SKILLS
Finally, if you’ve downloaded any of the Powerpoint presentations we’ve been publishing for Quartz members, we’d like to hear from you! I’d really appreciate it if you could answer this 3-minute survey to let us know more about what you like and don’t like about our presentations and how we can improve them for you.
Best wishes for a safe and restful weekend,
